About the Early Learning and Child Care Board

The PEI Early Learning and Child Care Board is responsible for licensing and licence renewal of child care and early childhood programs according to standards outlined in the regulations of the Early Learning and Child Care Board. The board also monitors and investigates complaints.

The Early Learning and Child Care Board decides and distinguishes the differences in type of service and programs offered by facilities as either of the following: 

  • Early Childhood Centre
  • Family Home Centre
  • Preschool Centre
  • School-Age Child Centre

Who serves on the Board?

Islanders who serve on the Early Learning and Child Care Board are committed to quality standards in early learning and child care. The provincial government appoints members from among individuals who apply through Engage PEI.
