What do I need to graduate from the English and French Immersion programs?

If you are a student in the English or French Immersion programs and started high school in or after September 2015, you need the following to graduate from high school with a Prince Edward Island Senior High School Graduation Certificate:

At least 20 credits, including 11 from the following subjects:

  • three (3) English credits, one of which must be a Grade 12 course (600 level)
  • two (2) math credits, one of which must be MAT 500 or 800 level (post-secondary institutions may require three or more math credits)
  • two (2) science credits
  • two (2) social studies credits, one of which must include Canadian content as listed in the Senior High Program of Studies or a social studies credit approved by the Director of English Education, Programs and Services as a compulsory course credit
  • one (1) physical education credit, which must be PED401A
  • one (1) career education and personal development credit, which must be CEO401A or CAR421F
  • five (5) credits must be from courses designated in the Senior High Program of Studies and List of Authorized Materials as Grade 12 courses (600 or 800 level courses)

If you leave school without fulfilling the requirements for a Provincial Senior High School Graduation Certificate, you may qualify for a Provincial Certificate of Accomplishment if you complete the following:

At least 20 credits, including:

Full-course credits in the English and French Immersion programs are 110 hours long.  You need a mark of at least 50 per cent to pass a course and get a credit.

What do I need to graduate from the French program?

If you are a student in the French program and started high school in September 2015, you need the following to graduate from high school with a Prince Edward Island Senior High School Graduation Certificate:

At least 25 credits, including 15 from the following subjects:

  • five (5) French First Language credits, one of which must be FRA621M or FRA631M
  • three (3) math credits
  • two (2) science credits
  • two (2) social studies credits
  • one (1) English credit
  • one (1) career education credit, which must be CAR421M
  • one (1) arts, trades, technology, or physical education credit
  • seven (7) credits must be at the Grade 12 level (600 or 800 level courses)

Full-course credits in the French program are 92.5 hours long.  You need a mark of at least 50 per cent to pass a course and get a credit.
