Statement by Minister Doug Currie on the newly signed teacher contract

I am pleased that the contract is now in place, as it is another step forward in the transformation of our education system to improve student learning. Islanders know the value of education and we all value the voice of teachers, as one of our many important partners in ensuring all Island children reach their full potential.

 

We are committed to continuing our positive working relationship with teachers and administrators, so that together, we can best support student learning across Prince Edward Island. With the finalization of this contract, we will continue to focus on improving student success, rejuvenating our education system, and equipping our young people to be prepared for opportunities in our traditional economic sector, our growing new sectors, and the 21st Century global economy.

 

The new collective agreement runs from September 1, 2015, to August 31, 2018.  Teachers will receive a seven percent salary increase over that time.
