Students wishing to pursue French-language post-secondary studies will have more financial support options to pursue their education goals.

The new French-language Post-Secondary Studies Scholarship is a multi-year bursary for Island students who wish to pursue their post-secondary education in a French-language program not offered in Prince Edward Island. The scholarship is funded by the Government of Canada and Province of Prince Edward Island in collaboration with the Société acadienne et francophone de l’Ȋle-du-Prince-Édouard (SAF’Ȋle).

“Reducing barriers to post-secondary education will help students follow their passion and pursue higher learning in their field of interest. By supporting French-language students who wish to continue their studies in French, we will help strengthen our Acadian and Francophone communities in Prince Edward Island. As a province, we will continue to look at options to improve access to post-secondary education and find more ways to retain Island graduates in our province.”

-  Education and Lifelong Learning Minister Natalie Jameson

Students who graduate from a French-language school or French Immersion program in Prince Edward Island may be eligible for up to $1,500 per year for collegiate studies and $2,000 per year for a bachelor’s degree.

“The need for a bilingual workforce in the Island’s labour market keeps increasing, and we feel it is important to take positive measures to provide financial support to students who want to pursue French-language postsecondary education,” said Edgar Arsenault, Chair of SAF’Île. “SAF’Île is proud to have collaborated with the provincial government to explore various ways and find a solution to provide more help for students who have to go elsewhere to be able to pursue their education in French.”

For full eligibility requirements and to learn more about the application process, students can visit the Société acadienne et francophone de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard website
