Statement by Premier Dennis King on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia
Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island issued the following statement on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, May 17, 2021:
“On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, Prince Edward Island stands with members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, to reaffirm their fundamental right to be treated equally, and with dignity and respect. No one should be subjected to discrimination or violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
I encourage all Islanders to do their part to make our province a place where everyone can be themselves without fear. We are all stronger when we embrace diversity, and people can live full and open lives within families and communities, and where their rights are fully protected.
It is also important to recognize all those who promote human rights and fight discrimination and prejudices. Pride PEI has always been a tremendous leader and trailblazer in celebrating diversity in PEI. I want to thank Pride PEI and recognize their efforts as we work together to create inclusive communities and equal opportunities for all Islanders.
Today, and every day, we must stand up for the rights of all individuals, and speak out against intolerance and discrimination wherever it may occur.”
