Community groups and organizations can apply online for funding to help support wellness initiatives that promote healthy living.
The Wellness Grant program supports community-led wellness initiatives that positively influence healthier lifestyles and community well-being. All projects funded through the program must address at least one of the following areas:
- physical activity
- tobacco reduction
- healthy eating
- responsible alcohol use
- mental wellness
“These grants create opportunities for local groups and organizations to be innovative and lead health and wellness priorities in their own communities. The main goals of this program are to increase well-being, foster connections, and promote healthy and resilient people and communities.”
- Health and Wellness Minister Ernie Hudson
The Wellness Grant program provides two funding streams for both small and large wellness initiatives. The Community Catalyst Grant provides Island communities with up to $2,500 to support building local capacity for wellness. The Health Promotion Impact Grant provides up to $10,000 to support larger projects that focus on modifying risk factors for chronic disease.
“Focusing on health promotion allows us to shift the focus from individual behaviours to population-level social and environmental interventions, ultimately reducing our reliance on the health system,” said Dr. David Sabapathy, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer. “It’s important that we continue to work together to create supportive environments on Prince Edward Island that help to prevent disease and encourage healthier lifestyles.”
For more information and to apply, visit the Wellness Grant program webpage. Applicants are reminded to follow all public health recommendations from the Chief Public Health Office when developing project plans.
Since 2015, the Wellness Grant Program has funded over 80 projects, and helped hundreds of Islanders live healthier lives.
