Quotes:

“The Government of PEI is encouraged by the strong response from individuals and organizations applying for microgrants to lead community projects addressing racism and discrimination. With a growing and diverse population, it is important that we support initiatives to help address racism and strengthen equality and inclusion in our province. ”

— Hon. Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island

“The increase in project numbers shows the ongoing need for these microgrants and we appreciate   the provincial government’s renewed funding support. We are encouraged to see how dedicated the community is to addressing racism in PEI.”

— Nancy Peters-Doyle, Co-Chair of the PEI Anti-Racism Table

“The microgrant we received in a previous round of funding helped us develop a project that is a vital step in advancing cultural humility and anti-racism within healthcare. Our goal is to foster respectful and culturally safe care for Indigenous peoples across PEI, and to support nurses and midwives in delivering care rooted in understanding, equity, and reconciliation.”

— Debra Smith, Coordinator of Professional Practice, College of Registered Nurses, and Midwives of PEI

“With support from the Anti-Racism Microgrant, BIPOC BPN successfully hosted two career-focused info sessions: ‘Opportunities in Financial Services’ and ‘Breaking into Construction.’ These events connected over 30 BIPOC professionals and entrepreneurs with industry leaders, fostering access and inclusion. There will be two additional sessions on worker co-ops and opportunities in health care, which will continue this impactful series, strengthening community networks and career pathways.

— Sandra Sunil, Director of Outreach and Engagement for Students and Trainees, BIPOC Business & Professional Network
