Hon. Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island, issued the following statement on the passing of former MLA and MP Gail Shea:
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Gail Shea.
Gail was a mainstay in the Progressive Conservative Party— a loyal, respected, and trusted voice who gave so much of herself to our province and to the people she served. She was a trailblazer, holding senior roles in both provincial and federal cabinets. But beyond the titles, Gail was someone who showed up for her constituents, for her colleagues, and for her community.
She was proud of her roots in western PEI and never lost touch with the people and values that shaped her. Her dedication, humility, and quiet strength earned the respect of Islanders from all walks of life.
On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I extend my sincere condolences to Gail’s family, her many friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her. She leaves behind a legacy of service, loyalty, and leadership that will not be forgotten.”
