Today, the Honourable Zack Bell, Minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture issued the following statement on recent accomplishments by PEI athletes:
“On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I extend heartfelt congratulations to our incredible Island athletes and teams for their outstanding accomplishments on the national stage.
At the 2025 Canada Games, Team PEI brought home the Centennial Cup as the most improved team—a testament to the dedication, resilience, and spirit of our athletes, coaches, and support staff. With many personal bests and the highest medal count since 2011, our athletes have shown that PEI may be small in size, but we continue to punch well above our weight. Congratulations to our medal winners: Veronica MacLellan (two bronze medals in swimming), Keely MacGrath (silver in wrestling), and Alexsa Matheson (bronze in wrestling).
We also celebrate a groundbreaking achievement in Canadian baseball: the Charlottetown Gaudet's Auto Body Islanders have captured the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship, becoming the first-ever PEI-based team to win the national title. This victory is a proud moment for our province and a shining example of what can be accomplished through teamwork, perseverance, and Island pride.
These achievements reflect the heart and determination of our sporting community. Whether on the diamond or the podium, our athletes are showing the country what it means to be from PEI—resilient, passionate, and ready to rise to any challenge.
Congratulations to all our athletes, coaches, families, and supporters. You’ve made us proud.”
