UPDATE: On May 23, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) issued a nationwide overtime ban as part of a legal strike action. While Canada Post will remain operational during this period, customers may experience delivery delays. In the event of a strike and mail service is discontinued, this online service will remain available but driver abstracts must be picked up in person at your chosen Access PEI location and will not be mailed. For questions, call Contact PEI at 1-833-PEI(734)-1873.

If you require your driving record for insurance or employment purposes, you can request a copy of your driving record through our online service. Please note: the online driver abstract can only be requested by the holder of the driver license.

What is a Driver Abstract?

A driver abstract (or driving record) is an official document that summarizes a person’s driving history such as license status, demerit points, suspensions, convictions, and accidents. A driver abstract contains information from various sources such as Highway Safety processes, Summary Offence Tickets (SOTs) under the Highway Traffic Act, and convictions under the Criminal Code of Canada.

A driver abstract contains the following information:

  • Current status of your driver’s license
  • Active demerit points on your record
  • License Class or Classes
  • Collisions
  • Suspensions
  • Convictions related to the operation of a motor vehicle
  • Conditions/Restrictions under which you are authorized to drive
  • Driving experience since 2008

Driver Abstracts contain a five year history of collisions and Criminal Code Convictions and a three year history of suspensions and other convictions for violations of any enactment related to the operation of a motor vehicle.
