The Intermediate Math Assessment (IMA) measures math knowledge and skills learned up to the end of Grade 9. The IMA is worth 10 per cent of the overall mark for the year.

You can review detailed guidelines and policies in the Intermediate Math Assessment Guide.

What areas of math are covered in the intermediate math assessment?

The assessment will cover four areas of math: number, patterns and relationships, shape and space, and statistics and probability. Your child’s teacher may use a sample math assessment in the classroom to discuss effective strategies and help students feel comfortable with the assessment format.

IMA sample questions

How long does it take to write the intermediate math assessment?

The assessment is administered in the classroom in June.  Most of the questions are multiple choice and students will have about 2 hours to write.

How should my child prepare for the intermediate math assessment?

To prepare for the assessment in advance, your child can review all math concepts learned in class this year. The best preparation for any assessment is arriving at school well rested and ready to participate.
