The Committee supports the government’s efforts to maintain formal communication and consultation with the Acadian and Francophone community (AFC) of PEI, and ensures that the needs and priorities of the AFC are considered in the delivery of services by government institutions.

What is the function of the organization?

The Acadian and Francophone Community Advisory Committee (AFCAC) provides advice to the Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs on:

  • the service priorities of the Acadian and Francophone community;
  • the designation of bilingual services;
  • the provision of designated bilingual services;
  • any other matter concerning the Acadian and Francophone community.

Primary Role:  Non-adjudicative

Material Role:  Advisory

How many people are on the organization?

The Committee is made up of ten members: one member for each Francophone region (West Prince, Évangéline, Summerside-Miscouche, Rustico, Charlottetown and Eastern Kings) and four other members, including the Chair.

What are the requirements of organization members?

Work & Experience Requirements: Members must have a good knowledge of the Acadian and Francophone community in PEI.

Skills Required: Members must be bilingual in French and English.

What are the nomination requirements?

Traditional Nomination Requirements

Appointments to the Committee shall be made by the Minister. All members appointed to the Committee must be bilingual in French and English. Gender parity will be sought to be maintained during the nomination process.

Will I get paid?

Chair - $113/diem and members - $73/diem

What is the time commitment of the organization?

Meetings usually take place during the evenings and on occasion, during the day. Subcommittee work can add to the time commitment.

Members shall be appointed to the advisory committee for a term of three years and may be reappointed once. The Minister may stagger the terms of the initial members appointed to the advisory committee.
