The Anti-Racism Table was formed in 2021 to identify ways and actions to address systemic racism on PEI.

What is the function of the organization?

The Anti-Racism Table will make recommendations to the PEI government to view practices and activities through a culturally inclusive lens. In particular, the group will develop actions to address systemic racism in and through:

  • Education
  • Justice and policing services
  • Provincial legislation, regulations, and policies
  • Opportunities for employment and job security
  • Health, mental health, and wellbeing
  • Housing
  • Social programs

How many people are in the organization?

The Anti-Racism Table is composed of representatives of various ethnocultural community organizations as well as five members at large.

What are the requirements of members of the organization?

Members appointed to represent ethnocultural community organizations must be members in good standing, with the authority to establish and maintain ongoing communication between the Anti-Racism Table and the organization.

Anyone can apply to be a member at large on the Anti-Racism Table. Preference will be given to people with involvement in ethnocultural organizations, people with lived experience, and people who identify as members of under-represented or systemically excluded groups. Additionally, knowledge of government programs and services related to areas of social policy such as health, education, justice and social programs is considered an asset. Please describe your suitability for involvement with the Anti-Racism Table in your Engage PEI application and include your resume, if available.

What are the nomination requirements?

Members appointed by ethnocultural community organizations will represent their group’s membership and act as their liaison on the Anti-Racism Table. Members at large are selected from applications received through Engage PEI as part of the public engagement and recruitment process for agencies, boards, and commissions.

Will I get paid?

Members receive $73 per meeting. The chairperson receives $113 per meeting.

What is the time commitment of the organization?

The Anti-Racism Table meets up to twelve times per year for three hours per meeting. Subcommittee work on specific short term projects may add to the time commitment. Members are expected to spend time preparing for meetings to enable their effective participation. A commitment of approximately four to six hours per month is expected.

Members of the Anti-Racism Table will be appointed for terms of up to three years. Members may be eligible for reappointment.
