PEI Arts Guild Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation whose mandate is to own and operate The Guild Theatre and Art Gallery located at 111 Queen Street, Charlottetown, PEI.
What is the function of the organization?
The mandate of the corporation is to provide a venue for new and established visual and performing artists in Prince Edward Island, and provide ancillary supporting services to Island artists.
The venue hosts approximately 200 live events each year and the gallery is open to the public 12 months a year. The operating budget of the corporation is approximately $400,000 to $450,000 per year.
The corporation is managed by a board of directors, and day-to- day management of the assets of the corporation is delegated to an executive director and a number of staff members.
How many people are on the board?
Under the by-laws of the corporation, the corporation is managed by a board of eight directors: three appointed by the Province of Prince Edward Island; three appointed by the City of Charlottetown; and two appointed by the board itself.
What are the requirements of board members?
The Board operates under a policy of gender diversity and, seeks representation from the arts and culture industries and the interested public.
What are the nomination requirements?
Three appointments to the committee shall be made by the minister responsible for culture, under approval of the Executive Council.
Will I get paid?
The Board has a policy of reimbursing directors for out-of-pocket expenses but other than that, there is no remuneration.
What is the time commitment?
The Board of Directors meets ten times per year, together with a longer strategic planning meeting, which is usually scheduled in early January each year.
