To facilitate economic development in the Summerside area.

What is the function of the organization?

A for-profit corporation established to foster socio-economic development in the City of Summerside and environs, with particular focus on maintaining the vitality of the downtown core and waterfront development.

Primary Role:  Non-adjudicative

Material Role:

  • Strategic Development 
  • Managerial/Oversight

How many people are on the organization?

The Corporation shall consist of:

  • (a) not less than one nor more than seven members designated by the Province to hold shares on behalf of the province, one of whom shall be a member of the Summerside City Council;
  • (b) the Mayor of Summerside; and
  • (c) the President of the Greater Summerside Development Inc.

What are the requirements of organization members?

Skills Required

It is suggest there be one each of the following:

  • (a) property/development/management experience;
  • (b) lawyer;
  • (c) CA; and the rest successful community/business leaders/managers, plus the Deputy Minister.

Will I get paid?

No remuneration

What is the time commitment of the organization?

Average one half day per month

All persons designated by the Province and nominated by the City and the Greater Summerside Development Inc. (Chamber of Commerce) and as approved by the shareholders shall hold office for a term of one year and shall be eligible for renomination. The whole Board shall retire at the annual meeting at which the Directors are nominated but each Director shall be eligible for renomination if otherwise qualified.
