What is dead marine mammal removal and disposal?

Removal and/or disposal of dead marine mammals (seals, dolphins, and whales) and large fish (sharks and tuna) that wash up on the Prince Edward Island shoreline is the responsibility of the Marine Fisheries section including the coordination and associated costs.

The majority of these mammals are buried on site or nearby, while others are either examined in the field by personnel from the Atlantic Veterinary College, or in some cases the carcasses are transported to the University for postmortem examination.
