The province is pleased to announce the appointment of Krista MacKay, Q.C., as the Prothonotary of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.

“I would like to congratulate Krista MacKay on her appointment. She is a highly qualified professional with experience in both the private sector and public service, and a long history of community service,” said Jordan Brown, Minister of Justice and Public Safety.

“Krista’s versatility and background make her the ideal candidate to fulfill the Prothonotary’s role as the link between the courts and the community.”

Brown also thanked Mark Gallant who has been acting Prothonotary while the position was filled.

As the chief legal officer of the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, the Prothonotary is essential to administration of justice.  It serves a diverse and integral role in ensuring the courts operate effectively and efficiently including, for example, mediating small claims matters, acting as Registrar of the Courts and working with the Rules Committee.

The appointment takes effect on April 1, 2019 and is valid for a 10-year period.
