Changes in the construction plan for the York bridge on Route 25 have eliminated the need for a detour.
Following a meeting between Premier Wade MacLauchlan, the MLA for York-Oyster Bed, and representatives of the community council, farmers, businesses and area representatives to discuss concerns about the proposed detour, the Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy developed plans to install a temporary bridge.
“The department has responded to suggestions made during two public meetings with area residents who expressed concerns about the proposed detour,” said Minister Biggar. “As a result, we modified the plan and took it back to the community for its endorsement. I want to thank area residents for their input.”
Construction will now begin on October 3 and last for approximately nine weeks. In the meantime, a temporary bridge allowing for two-way traffic will be constructed, and will be open on October 15. There will be a four-way stop at the intersection of the York Road and the Pleasant Grove Road.
Approximately 2500 vehicles travel the route every day. The existing bridge is being replaced because of safety concerns.
The project will be cost-shared with the federal government.
