The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) will carry out a mock disaster exercise this Wednesday, October 18 to test its emergency and disaster responses.
Although the hospital’s emergency department will play a large role in the disaster exercise, Islanders seeking emergency medical care will continue to be assessed and treated. However, wait times for non-emergency care may be impacted.
The hospital-wide exercise will involve a number of persons arriving at the emergency department simulating real-life casualties from a mock disaster exercise being simultaneously carried out at the Charlottetown Airport. Response will include moving these casualties throughout the hospital as needed.
To further support Islanders requiring non-urgent care during that time, walk-in clinics in the greater Charlottetown area will temporarily extend their hours of service for the afternoon of Wednesday, October 18 only:
- Charlottetown Walk-in Clinic (20-24 St. Peter’s Road)
4 - 6 p.m. - Downtown Walk-in Clinic (220 Water Street)
1 - 4 p.m. - Sherwood Walk-in Clinic (15 Brackley Point Road)
1 - 3 p.m. and 5 - 6:30 p.m. - Stratford Walk-in Clinic (13 Stratford Road)
5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
