For many, Eternal Wellness in Rustico might look like just another wellness centre at first glance. But behind the weights and fitness classes is a powerful program helping people heal, grow, and connect, not just in body, but in mind and spirit, too.

Thanks to support from the 2024–25 Health Innovation Fund, Eternal Wellness launched a 10-week Body-Mind-Spirit program last spring. It’s aimed at supporting adults who wouldn’t usually step foot in a gym, whether because of financial strain, mental health challenges, or mobility issues.

With $57,000 in funding, the Eternal Wellness team combined fitness, mindfulness, and nutrition to create a safe, welcoming space for everyone in the program.

Participants get a one-year gym membership and take part in group workouts, art-based mindfulness classes, and hands-on nutrition education. Some were referred to the program through Lennon House in Rustico, while others joined from the broader community, ranging in age from 30 to over 70.

"The program was developed from the heart,” said Leigh-Ann Jones, a learning and behaviour consultant at Eternal Wellness. “We wanted to give people the tools to live life using a positive lens.”

Each part of the program plays a special role. Art projects like working with clay or building collages help participants express emotions and reflect on their lives. Nutrition classes break down the science behind food and help people build healthier habits. And fitness sessions offer structure, strength, and a strong sense of community.

“For some people, just walking through the door is a big step,” said Denee Gallant-Ramsay, owner of Eternal Wellness. “To see them coming back week after week and opening up, creating community, developing a sense of accountability… it’s really powerful to see.”

While the team hopes to offer more support in the future, right now they’re focused on what matters most: showing up, building trust, and helping people feel stronger in every part of their lives.
