Starting September 1, 2025, the daily accommodation rate for public long-term care homes in Prince Edward Island will increase from $114.67 to $116.96.

When rates go up in private long-term care homes, the government adjusts the accommodation rate for residents in public homes. This ensures fairness across the sector, while helping to cover the rising costs of goods and services.

“This rate adjustment reflects the realities of rising operational costs including food, staffing, and utilities. We appreciate the impacts on residents and their families.”

— Andrew MacDougall, Executive Director of Community Health and Seniors Care

Approximately 85% of residents are covered by the Long-Term-Care Subsidization Program; those residents will not be affected by the rate change. Current residents who are affected by the rate change have been contacted directly.
