A new interactive map will help users point and click their way to outdoor fun across Prince Edward Island.

The Active Living on PEI “story map” allows Islanders and visitors to find year-round opportunities like cycling, running or hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Users can get pop-up information about the province’s many trails and wild areas in each section of the map at Active Living on PEI Story Map.

“Part of our heritage as Islanders is experiencing and enjoying our province’s natural beauty, which inspires us to work together to do great things,” Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar said. “This interactive story map will probably surprise many people by showing that - even for a small place - there is a large amount of recreational opportunities available on Prince Edward Island.”

The map will also help Islanders looking to increase their physical fitness by augmenting their indoor gym time with outdoor activities.

“We are so fortunate to live in a province full of trails, pathways and open parks that can help us be physically active and improve our overall health and well-being,” Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson said. “This map shows that there are many opportunities to get active right in our own communities.”

Another initiative to help Islanders enhance physical fitness and health living is go!PEI, supported by the Department of Health and Wellness and managed by Recreation PEI. It offers free physical activity and healthy eating programs and helps Islanders make simple lifestyle changes to improve overall health and quality of life.
