Premier King speaks with Senators about Basic Income Guarantee

Premier King spoke today with Senator Kim Pate, Senator Diane Griffin, Senator Brian Francis, and Senator Mike Duffy regarding the most recent report from the Special Committee on Poverty. 

Premier King provided an update on recent internal and external discussions regarding the recommendation to establish a basic income guarantee program on Prince Edward Island.  Premier King expressed a desire to work collaboratively with all levels of federal and provincial governments to further explore next steps.  

Premier King indicated that he would be writing a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau requesting that a working group of government officials from both the federal and provincial governments be established.   

Premier King also agreed to continue to share progress updates with the Senators in the months ahead.
