Premier MacLauchlan to promote U.S. trade and relationships in Washington, D.C
Premier Wade MacLauchlan, along with members the Council of the Federation, will participate in a joint mission of Canada’s Premiers to Washington, D.C. from June 6-8, 2017.
Among the delegation, led by Yukon Premier Sandy Silver, will be Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister, New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant, Newfoundland & Labrador Premier Dwight Ball, Northwest Territories Premier Bob McLeod, and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.
The purpose of this joint mission to strengthen relations with key US officials while focusing on issues important to Islanders including: trade, energy, and agriculture. Premier MacLauchlan looks to showcase Prince Edward Island’s many interrelationships with the American economy.
“Prince Edward Island had almost $1 billion in merchandise exports to the United States in 2016 — almost double the amount done six years ago,” said Premier MacLauchlan. “Our consistent economic growth requires us to build and foster national and international partnerships. We welcome the opportunity to explore new connections and strengthen existing ones with our partners in the United States.”
The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians. The last joint mission to Washington, D.C was in 2010.
