More frontline educators and school staff will be joining the Island school system to help students access the support they need for success.

For the upcoming 2025-26 school year, 189 new education positions will be added to PEI’s public education system. Additional positions include:

  • 91 instructional staff;
  • 84 education assistants;
  • 3 speech language pathologists;
  • 3 bus drivers; and,
  • 2 custodial staff.

Last year’s investment into the Positive Behaviour Intervention and Supports (PBIS) pilot program will continue again in the 2025-26 school year in the same PSB schools.

In addition, operational funding for six positions at the Public Schools Branch will increase their capacity to effectively manage the Island’s public education system.

“Ensuring the Island’s public education system meets the increasingly diverse needs of a growing population requires intentional investments in not only infrastructure but the front line as well. The additional positions in the system will help students learn and thrive while easing pressure on our educators and school staff so schools can remain the healthy and safe place they are meant to be for children’s learning and development.”

— Minister of Education and Early Years Robin Croucher

Recognizing cost of living pressures many Island families continue to face, the Province will also continue to provide free essential school supplies and healthy meals at no or low cost to families. These supports will help ensure every student across PEI can have the same strong start to the school year.
