The third in a series of discussions on how to design energy efficient homes will be held next week in Summerside.
Hosted by the city of Summerside and efficiencyPEI, Build a Better Home will be Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Empire Room of the Loyalist Country Inn. Energy efficient homes conserve energy, cost less to operate, reduce our environmental impact and save Islanders money.
"The provincial government is pleased to offer a number of incentives to help Islanders reduce their energy use and save money, " said Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar. "We are also proposing comprehensive energy efficiency and conservation measures, including the adoption of the National Building Code and the National Energy Code for Buildings province-wide."
All are welcome to attend but the panel discussion may be of special interest for contractors, people in the process of or considering building a new home, or those renovating/retrofitting an existing home.
“The City of Summerside is pleased to see this timely focus on energy consumption and reducing our environmental impact on our planet,” said Summerside Mayor Bill Martin. “I applaud the government for hosting these educational sessions for our residents which will impact their pocket books and will have a positive influence on our goals to reduce our carbon footprint.”
The preceding sessions were held in Charlottetown and Stratford and were both well-received and attended events.
The panel of experts will include Andy Collier, energy program officer at efficiencyPEI; David Carmichael, horticulture technician at PEI Forests, Fish and Wildlife; Andrew Swingler, Professor at UPEI School of Sustainable Design Engineering; and Greg Gaudet, Director of Municipal Affairs at the City of Summerside. The panel will focus on saving energy and minimizing environmental impacts through design, energy efficiency, landscaping and solar energy.
Pre-registration for this free event can be done online at Build A Better Home.
