New equipment will help Prince Edward Island Ground Search and Rescue improve search and rescue efforts across the province.
The Province is providing a one-time grant of $100,000 to purchase new safety equipment, kayaks, trailers and replacement vehicles to help support the important work that PEI Ground Search and Rescue (PEIGSAR) does for Islanders. New everyday and specialized equipment will ensure PEIGSAR volunteers can do their job safely and effectively.
“Receiving this grant means so much for our organization. We will be able to purchase and replace equipment like safety gear, kayaks, trucks and other supplies to better respond to search and rescue operations across the Island,” said George Williams, President of the PEI Ground Search and Rescue. “We are thankful that the Department of Justice and Public Safety responded to our request. We will be putting these funds to good use.”
“Given the unpredictable nature of emergencies that can happen anywhere in our province, making sure Ground Search and Rescue have the ability to buy the equipment they need just makes sense. It’s important that they are equipped for all seasons and all scenarios, and I’m happy we can support the invaluable, specialized work they do in times of crisis.”
- Justice and Public Safety Minister Bloyce Thompson
