This year’s transportation investments will build Prince Edward Island’s economy and help our communities thrive.

Speaking to the PEI Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association today, Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar said she looks forward to a year of strategic investments in highway infrastructure. In the 2017 construction season the department plans 23 road projects and 14 bridge projects across the Island.

“The Trans-Canada Extension project in Cornwall is a perfect example of the way we want to pursue projects that enable and encourage economic growth while making transportation safer and more efficient,” Minister Biggar said. “The results we achieve together are helping to make this Island mighty because despite our small size, we know how to make big things happen.”

In 2016, the department completed 14 bridge projects and repaved or reconstructed more than 100 kilometres of road. Now that the first round of 2017 road and bridge tenders was announced January 31, a further round is expected in the coming weeks.
