Sexual Assault Awareness Week in PEI

September 18, 2025

Sexual Assault Awareness Week, September 18-24, brings together survivors and allies of all genders to promote healing and help Islanders learn how to support them in their communities.

This year’s theme is tech-facilitated sexual violence. The PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (PEIRSAC) is coordinating events throughout the week, including virtual sessions, group discussions, book club drop-in, a movie screening, and the Take Back the Night March. The events create spaces for support, healing, and learning.

“Online sexual harassment and other forms of digital violence can result in deep and lasting harm to people and communities. Raising awareness is an essential step in preventing harm and supporting those affected. Through meaningful collaboration, we can make communities across the Island safer and more inclusive, both in person and online.”

— Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, Jenn Redmond

PEIRSAC’s programming for the week aims to fill gaps in online consent education by engaging survivors and building the skills and knowledge of allies.

"With the help of partners in PEI and across Canada, we aim to shed light on emerging issues in online harassment, also known as tech-facilitated sexual violence,” said PEIRSAC community project coordinator, Rachel Adams. “By offering a mix of in-person and online events, we hope to make the week engaging and accessible for anyone who wants to join the conversation."
