UPDATE: Several services at KCMH remain closed until at least noon Wednesday
The Kings County Memorial Hospital emergency department, laboratory, diagnostic imaging and ambulatory care services remain closed to the public until at least 12 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) following a fire in the boiler room early this morning.
Patients with appointments will be advised accordingly and re-scheduled. There remains no impact to the in-patient care at this time and hospital officials reassure the public that all patients and staff are safe.
The hospital has begun the process of taking appropriate steps, including a thorough cleaning of the facility, before services can return to normal operations.
Hospital administration continues to work with the appropriate authorities to safely address the situation. An investigation is being carried out into the cause of the fire that resulted in smoke traveling to several areas in the hospital.
A further update will be provided by 11 a.m. tomorrow.
