Statement from Premier Rob Lantz on the Conclusion of the 2025 Council of the Federation Meetings
Premier Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island, issued the following statement at the conclusion of the 2025 Council of the Federation meetings:
“As the 2025 Council of the Federation meetings conclude here in beautiful Huntsville, I want to express my gratitude to Premier Ford for his warm hospitality and leadership in bringing us together at a critical juncture for our nation.
This week, Premiers from across Canada convened to address the most pressing challenges facing Canadians. We tackled issues such as reducing trade barriers, enhancing labour mobility, securing new markets for Canadian goods and services, and improving healthcare and public safety for all Canadians.
A central focus of our discussions was the ongoing trade disruptions with the United States. As Premiers, we stand united with the Prime Minister in recognizing the paramount importance of securing a fair and forward-looking trade agreement that safeguards Canadian jobs, strengthens our industries, and ensures long-term economic stability. Amidst uncertainty, we are speaking with a unified voice to defend Canada’s economic interests and negotiate the most advantageous agreement for our country’s future.
These meetings reaffirmed what Canadians hold dear: our nation is robust and united. Whether it involves strengthening the healthcare workforce, securing supply chains, or addressing the cost of living, Premiers demonstrate that progress is achievable through partnership, pragmatism, and mutual respect.
As Premier of Prince Edward Island, I am honoured to assume the role of Chair of the Council of the Federation. I eagerly anticipate building upon the momentum we have collectively generated over the past several days.
There remains considerable work ahead, but I am confident in our trajectory forward. Together, we are united in purpose—and united in delivering for Canadians.”
