Provincial Funding to Support Camps and Activities for Islanders with Disabilities

Islanders with complex needs are enjoying a summer of connection, learning, and fun through inclusive programming at Camp Gencheff—made possible in part through provincial support.
Camp Gencheff provides a variety of programs year-round to support adults and children with physical and intellectual disabilities. It hosts summer day camps, after school programs, weekend and overnight respites, and day programming for adults.
“Camp Gencheff is truly a magical place for the people who benefit from the programming it provides. It’s in a beautiful, seaside, location which allows for engaging activities like beach days, swimming, campfires and nature walks, and it gives its clients a sense of community and belonging, not to mention the peace of mind and rest it offers primary caregivers. We are proud to support this organization.”
— Minister of Social Development and Seniors Barb Ramsay
Through the Department of Social Development and Seniors, the Province is providing just over $98,000 to support operations at Camp Gencheff in 2025-26.
“This funding is crucial for our organization to continue to provide high quality programming to our clients, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. Every year the demand on our organization grows as our services expand to meet the need of the clients and families we serve. We look forward to a continued positive partnership with the province as we strive to improve quality of life for our campers and their care givers.”
— Camp Gencheff President Laura Fall
Through Social Development and Seniors, the province provides over $20 million in annual funding to organizations that deliver services to vulnerable Islanders including residential services, accessibility supports, transportation, day programming, advocacy, and recovery services.
