Cancer Care

Island residents have access to cancer screening programs. Health PEI is committed to reducing cancer and its impact on all Islanders by advancing best-practice care across the cancer control continuum.

  • Breast cancer screening: Island residents, age 40-74, can be screened for breast cancer by having a mammogram.
  • Cervical cancer screening (HPV tests): HPV testing has replaced Pap tests to screen for cervical cancer on PEI. Island residents, age 25-65, can be screened for cervical cancer by having a HPV test.
  • Colonoscopy Self-Referral: If you or your family have a history of colorectal cancer or high-risk polyps, a colonoscopy is the recommended test for screening. To self-refer, you must be an Island resident without a primary care provider.
  • Colorectal cancer screening (FIT kits): Island residents, age 50-74 years, can order a fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kit, to get screened for colorectal cancer.
