Food Safety Training is critical for public safety and protection.

The license holder for any PEI licensed food premises serving food is required to have successfully completed an approved food safety training program.

In the licence holder’s absence, at least one employee who is present in the food preparation area is required to have successfully completed an approved food safety training program.

  • Evidence of food safety training (a certificate or other proof) must be posted in the food premises in a location where it can easily be checked by a public health official.
  • Food handlers completing food safety training must update their certification every five years.

For more information related to food hygiene training, refer to the PEI Public Health Act Food Premises Regulations, Section 24.

How can I register for food safety training?

You can register online for food safety training through PEI Environmental Health at Register for a Food Safety Course.

For a current list of other food safety training programs (in-person or online) deemed acceptable under PEI Public Health Act Food Premises Regulations, Section 24(1), visit Approved Food Safety Training Programs.
