Improvements to the Mount Herbert intersection will make it safer and more efficient for commuters and transport vehicles traveling through eastern Queens County.
Area residents can view several design options and get their questions answered by provincial government transportation staff at a public information session tonight, February 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Donagh Regional School. The Mount Herbert intersection includes Bunbury Road, Fort Augustus Road, and Route 215.
“The area around Fort Augustus, Mermaid, and Johnstons River is a densely settled and growing rural community heavy in agriculture and other important services for the region,” Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar said. “By enabling smoother and safer traffic flow through the Mount Herbert intersection we can help our farms on this side of the Hillsborough River get goods to markets via the Trans-Canada Highway and give the entire community an economic boost.”
The Mount Herbert intersection sees an average of 8,400 vehicles a day in peak season on the Bunbury Road section of Route 21 and 4,400 vehicles each day on the Fort Augustus Road section of Route 21.
The Fort Augustus Road provides the main link to facilities such as Donagh Regional School and the Provincial Addictions Centre to the north and to the education, health care, shopping, and services of Stratford and Charlottetown to the south.
