Investments to support projects in rural municipalities continue

The provincial government continues to fund projects to ensure residents in rural municipalities across the province have access to safe and sustainable infrastructure.  

Since March 2020, the Department of Fisheries and Communities has invested more than $2.4 million to deliver 98 projects in various rural communities in PEI. Most recently, the department collaborated with the Rural Municipality of Central Kings to upgrade and enhance a community dock in Bridgetown.

"Our infrastructure is a key piece of our rural municipality and replacing this dock means our residents can safely use it for recreation," said the mayor of the Rural Municipality of Central Kings, Craig Jackson. "Thanks to the funding provided through the division of rural and regional development, we are very happy that our dock got the upgrades it needed."

“Continually investing in infrastructure projects is very important so that we can keep people safe and communities strong,” said Minister of Fisheries and Communities Jamie Fox. “I’m thankful to be out in rural communities almost every day to see the various projects that are taking place and the improvements being made for the people in rural PEI.”

Rural and regional development investments are provided by programs such as the Community Capacity Program, Community Revitalization Program, Rural Jobs Initiative, and the Economic Growth Program.
