The Government of Prince Edward Island has acquired land in the Town of Three Rivers for the development of a new Community Health Centre and the future site of a new Kings County Memorial Hospital (KCMH).

The land acquisition is a critical step towards building modern and sustainable health facilities in eastern PEI.

“We are planning for the future of health care in Prince Edward Island, with a focus on what Islanders will need in the years ahead. Securing this land is a key step as we work toward a new Kings County Memorial Hospital. It reflects our long-term commitment to supporting strong communities across the province.”

— Hon. Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island

“This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening health care in Kings County—today and for the future. By securing this property now, we’re ensuring that we have the flexibility and space to respond to the evolving health care needs of this community and the eastern region of PEI. KCMH is an aging hospital, and we know that a new modern facility is needed. This is an important milestone in our efforts to improve access to care for all Islanders.”

— Health and Wellness Minister, Mark McLane

The 84.7 acres of land, purchased through a private sale, are located on the outskirts of Montague off AA MacDonald Road and offer a centrally located, accessible site with ample space for development.

The site will host numerous health facilities including the KCMH replacement and a new Community Health Centre for the area. The next phase will involve site planning to determine how the land can best support health services for the region, followed by functional planning for the new health facilities.

“This is about planning smart for the future. Having the right land in the right location gives us a strong foundation for future development. This kind of early, proactive investment ensures that when we’re ready to move forward with design and construction, we’ll be well positioned to do so.”

— Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Ernie Hudson

While specific timelines for building design and construction will be determined in future phases of the project, the land acquisition ensures the necessary groundwork is in place to support long-term planning and development. Consultations with community members, staff and stakeholders will continue this summer as part of the master planning process for the new health facilities.

This investment is part of the province’s broader work to modernize health infrastructure and deliver high-quality, accessible health care, for all Islanders.
