“The cost of education can be a significant barrier for students,” said Minister of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population Jenn Redmond. “Increasing financial support and expanding access to high-demand career pathways helps ensure more Islanders have the opportunity to pursue their professional goals.”

“For many years, the George Coles Bursary has played a vital role in helping Holland College students pursue their educational and career goals, said President and CEO of Holland College Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald. “We are pleased to see the provincial government increase its support for this important bursary, which directly benefits students training for meaningful careers right here on the Island.”

“The increase in funding for the George Coles Bursary and Marion L. Reid Grant will increase access to post-secondary education for more PEI students at UPEI,” said President and Vice-Chancellor of UPEI Dr. Wendy Rodgers. “I am also very pleased that paramedicine is now an eligible program under the Marion L. Reid grant, allowing more students to pursue this essential allied health career. On behalf of UPEI, I thank the Government of PEI for helping our students and for its ongoing support of the University.”

"The expansion of the Marion L. Reid Grant is an investment in our communities,” said CEO of the Dental Association of PEI Dr. Michael Connolly. “It helps ensure that Island students can pursue careers in dentistry and return to serve the people and places they call home."
