What is a response time?

An ambulance response time is defined as the time from when the 9-1-1 call is received at the Public Safety Answering Point (9-1-1 Dispatch Centre) until the arrival of the first paramedic on scene.

How are response times reported?

Ambulance response times for Prince Edward Island are reported quarterly and reflect information gathered over a three-month time frame.

The information reflects the overall median response time for all pre-hospital calls for each of the six ambulance coverage zones.

What other information is reported?

In addition to the response times, the report includes the total number of ambulance calls for each coverage zone during that same three-month time period and what percentage of total provincial calls that reflects.

The report also includes the top-five most common pre-hospital ambulance calls.
